While travel photography often lends itself to landscape or photojournalism, I am also fascinated by the detail of what can be found along the way. I prefer images devoid of people, consciously waiting for the space to clear, preferring to let the object of study take on a life of its own.
Travel broadens the mind, but it also nurtures the soul. The interior journey is as relevant as the exterior and in exploring our surroundings, we have the chance to stop for a while and reflect, perhaps in a way we have never done before. In transit we can suspend our expectations, even our beliefs, and open ourselves up to new ways of thinking. We can learn so much about our relationship to the world and others and reconnect, just as we are.
I found freedom in hitting the road to capture these pictures. The flowers scream ‘Life!’, the envy of sapphire seas still calls to me more than it should – and I give in, as often as I can. I hope they will remind you of the joy of your travels too.
